French Finance Minister: See Signs of Economic Recovery

PARIS--French Finance Minister Pierre Moscovici said Wednesday there were signs that the economy may be recovering after two consecutive quarterly contractions.

"We remain cautious but indicators seem to point to the beginning of an economic recovery," said Mr. Moscovici on the sidelines of a conference in Paris.

He added the government expects a 0.2% expansion in the economy in the second quarter from the previous quarter.

The minister said this forecast was based on a slight stabilization in the French economy in past weeks, a recovery in consumer demand, and an improvement in French companies' cash flows.

The French central bank said last month it expected the euro zone's second-largest economy to expand 0.1% in the second quarter.
