Small businesses and young people 'important' to economic recovery

Growth and innovation in small businesses will be crucial to the UK's emergence from the economic downturn, according to Entrepreneurs in Action.

In the expansion, small businesses will almost definitely create graduate vacancies and launch graduate schemes.

Derek Browne, chief executive and founder of the organisation, said equipping university-leavers with the ability to capitalise on opportunities would also be an important challenge to overcome on the road to recovery.

"Research shows how important small business growth and innovation will be to our economic recovery," he said.

"Giving young people the skills and confidence to make the most of those opportunities - for which good grades alone are not enough - is one of the most important challenges for the education and business sectors alike."

Last week, John Walker, who is the national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, called on the government to create a climate in which entrepreneurs can prosper.
